I am blessed to have friends all over the world. I am also very lazy about visiting said friends. Ironic given my love of travel. So when the opportunity came up to go to Savannah for a work conference, I jumped on it because I would be able to visit some friends.
I flew down on United Express, which I try to avoid, but luckily I got upgraded to First Class and I had super fun flight attendant who kept my wine glass full.
I booked the Andaz Savannah, which at first glance appeared to be a nice hotel. My friend Renee picked me up from the airport, we stopped by the hotel to drop off my bags and then headed over to Tybee Island. As luck would have it, it started to pour rain as soon as we got there.
After a great afternoon of hanging out, I headed back to the hotel to get some work done. Yeah that thought lasted about 2 minutes. I headed over the Savannah Bee Company store to pick up a birthday gift. If you like honey, go this store. If you don’t, I would not recommend it.
I spent probably an hour in this treasure of trove. I even did a Mead tasting
.
High on Honey, I headed back out to see what other trouble I could find in Savannah. Interesting fact, Savannah allows open containers on the street. So when in Rome……
So back to the Andaz. Upon check-in they informed me due to my Hyatt Diamond status, they upgraded me to a nicer room. Great. Expect it faced the square, that had a street full of bars on it. So at 3am I could hear all the party goers, still going strong. I made a new friend at breakfast as we were both complaining about the noise from the night before. So I guess something good came out of it!
Otherwise, I had no complaints about the hotel. I had booked a room for the night because I had read they had candied bacon at the bar. Well I had to try 3 times, before I was successful in securing said bacon, but man was it worth the wait.
My friends Carrie and Nick, happen to be in town to celebrate Carrie’s birthday and we had a great dinner at Olde Pink House.
Due to my fish allergy it was kind of pain to eat in Savannah. I just have to remember to ask the important questions, like are the french fries fried in the same oil as the fish? If anything its making me make healthier food choices.
While I did not get to do much sightseeing, since I was stuck in the conference, I did enjoy my time in Savannah, especially getting to spend time with Renee and her family. I hope to get back one day.
